Well I Won
Boy, they’ll let anyone be on city council here in Columbia. Its 2:12 on a weeknight and I ought to be sleeping. I took Fido for a walk after I got home. I went to Steak and Shake as I had been making the rounds and didn’t get to eat dinner. I drank a beer but tried not to hold it all the time. Might look at my press. I’m pretty tired. “Hollowed out with a bit of an echo” I said in an email. Feels good to have the wind blowing through you though. Wrote a snatch of verse:
I don’t go to church
I am a church
Worshiping with anyone who believes in anything
And everyone who believes in everything
Right now the dog and the grass
Congratulations on your new poetry and your new unpaid job. I like your words about church being where you find it and with whomever you find yourself with who wants to be church. (Aside: To get prostltyzing Zambians off my back when they asked about what church I had chosen in my new country I told them I attended the Church of All People. When they’d ask where that met I explained that it’s everywhere, thank you.)
CONGRATULATIONS! I wish I had read this sooner!
That’s so wonderful. You deserve it. You’ve worked so hard!
Awesome poem, too. Very short but very striking. I feel it would make very compelling song lyrics.
I really enjoyed your previous post as well. Very honest and direct, but in a way where I could relate and feel compassion. It must have been an emotionally draining day, going to the polls and then waiting to hear the results. I hate that feeling of nervousness, but it always comes with sweeping relief when it’s over.
Even though I have no idea what goes on in your city, I just can’t help but feel that the the voters made the perfect choice. If they could have read your blog, they would know just how much you care and just how hard you work.
Congratulations again, I’m so very glad you won!
Hey thanks Kato, I just got home from my first City Council meeting. It was long but very engaging and its complicated stuff. I don’t think I made any egregious errors and people were in large part very nice. I am going to take my blog back public in 3-6 months. After I have had time to introduce myself and have a little bit of a record. I have had really to interesting of a life for politics but I like being open and honest about my experiences so I guess things will come out eventually. Glad you liked the poem. I’ve enjoyed that you have been posting more and appreciate the stuff you wrestle with. As much as you can stay in the moment. If I had college to do over again I would have gotten more involved with campus life. Its tougher for a commuter but worth it I think. Once I figured that was what it was mostly about and not so much the helping you helping you get a job some day I made a lot of friends who are still my friends today.
